- Oil spray
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, finely grated
- 1 tablespoon finely grated ginger
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar (or regular sugar)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons white pepper powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon brown sugar (or regular sugar)
- 1/8 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 1 small batch basil, sliced (or nori sheets)
- Lemon wedges
- Sliced hot peppers of your choice (jalapeño, Asian red long pepper, Bird eye chile, etc.)
Instructions
- Combine chicken pieces with garlic, ginger, brown sugar, and spices; marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- Mix remaining salt, brown sugar, white pepper, and five-spice powder in a small bowl.
- Incorporate cornstarch into marinated chicken until evenly coated.
- Place chicken in air fryer basket; spray with oil and cook at 350°F (176°C) for 10 minutes.
- Flip chicken pieces, spray with oil again, and increase temperature to 400°F (200°C) for 5 more minutes.
- Toss cooked chicken with reserved spice mix and garnish with basil and hot peppers.
Notes
Marinate overnight for richer flavors.
Avoid overcrowding the air fryer for optimal crispiness.
