  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup wine (red or white)
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes

Instructions

  • Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat.
  • Sauté the diced onion with 1/4 teaspoon of salt until translucent.
  • Add diced celery and carrot; sauté for 2 minutes.
  • Stir in minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  • Add ground beef and 1/4 teaspoon of pepper; brown thoroughly.
  • Mix in milk and wine, season with remaining salt, and simmer until liquid evaporates.
  • Stir in crushed tomatoes, bring to a boil, then reduce heat.
  • Slow cook uncovered for 3 hours, stirring occasionally.
