- 1 medium onion, diced

- 2 stalks celery, diced
- 1 large carrot, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup wine (red or white)
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
Instructions
- Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat.
- Sauté the diced onion with 1/4 teaspoon of salt until translucent.
- Add diced celery and carrot; sauté for 2 minutes.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Add ground beef and 1/4 teaspoon of pepper; brown thoroughly.
- Mix in milk and wine, season with remaining salt, and simmer until liquid evaporates.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, bring to a boil, then reduce heat.
- Slow cook uncovered for 3 hours, stirring occasionally.
